ACADEMIC DIRECTOR OF CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT AND CLINICAL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY | PURDUE UNIVERSITY NORTH CENTRAL | 8/2009-5/2017
Created mandatory professional development for participating high school teachers based on the needs of the academic discipline. While the sciences, such as chemistry or biology, needed hands-on laboratory activities to complement their virtual modules, the social sciences, such as psychology or history, required more discussion forums and debates to complement the modules. Both provided a deeper understanding of the material.
Per this requirement, I mediated negotiations between college professors and high school teachers. The information was then triangulated with the learner analysis to determine gaps in knowledge to address during professional development. This information led to the creation and continual evaluation of modules disseminated via Blackboard Learning Management System and live instruction during onboarding and annual enrichment events.
I created virtual graduate and undergraduate courses for various academic departments. As the dual enrollment academic director, I placed the utmost importance on the authenticity and rigor of the courses taught in the high schools. I created virtual undergraduate courses and disseminated them to high school classrooms. These online courses allowed for consistency between the secondary and post-secondary environments.
Graduate courses were created through collaboration with professors, as the subject matter experts, to help teachers achieve Higher Learning Commission requirements. Due to location constraints, the courses were asynchronous and 100% virtual. They contained video lessons, discussion forums, and assessments aligned with learning goals and objectives as directed by the professors.
Created a collaborative environment yet maintained expectations through transparency and 360-degree communication
Aligned high school and collegiate learning objectives
Ensured academic rigor of high school courses met those of the university
Maintained artifacts for accreditation purposes
Maintained comprehensive files of each teacher participating in the Concurrent Enrollment Program
